Dräger Fabius Anaesthesia Workstations — Model Service

Checkout, maintenance, calibration and fault-finding on the Fabius GS, Plus and Tiro

Part of the program: Anaesthesia Machine Service Engineer — full program (23 h) →

A model course for engineers who have passed Anaesthesia Workstation Service — Level 1. It takes the Fabius family apart on paper, with the Fabius GS as the reference machine: the gas box, the S-ORC, the electric piston ventilator and its pneumatic assembly, the compact breathing system, the engineer's checkout with the manufacturer's limits, the six-monthly PM with its one- and three-year kits, service-mode calibrations in a sound order, service log codes, leak isolation, ventilator, flow sensor and O2 cell faults, the power chain and lost-memory faults, and a full return to service. Independent course: not affiliated with or endorsed by Drägerwerk AG. Dräger and Fabius are trademarks of their owner.

A piston instead of a bellows, a memory that can forget, and leaks that hide behind the flowmeters.

  • The Fabius is everywhere, often without a manufacturer contract, and engineers meet it with a bellows-machine background: no drive gas, a piston with a vacuum-held rolling seal and a fresh gas decoupling valve behave differently from what they expect.
  • Typical calls end with a new circuit or a new flow sensor while the real cause is a cracked tube inside the flowmeter assembly, a dirty seal on the compact breathing system, a lost PEEP calibration or a flat memory cell that wiped the settings overnight.
  • Calibrations are run without their preconditions, the PASS on the screen is taken as proof, and the machine goes back to theatre without an instrument checkout.

After the course you can

01Identify the Fabius variant, configuration, software and controller version, and follow the gas path from the inlets through the S-ORC, vaporiser and compact breathing system to the scavenger.
02Explain the electric piston ventilator, its rolling diaphragm, vacuum, home sensor and safety valves, and the role of the pneumatic assembly in PEEP and APL bypass control.
03Run the engineer's checkout in order with the manufacturer's limits and say what each test proves and what each failure points to.
04Fit the annual and three-year kits, run the fresh gas, pressure, O2, PEEP and flow sensor calibrations with their preconditions, and set the configuration that affects measurement.
05Read power-up results, alarm priorities and service log codes as pointers to assemblies, and isolate leaks, ventilator, flow sensor and O2 cell faults.
06Trace power and board faults, recognise lost-memory faults, prepare for disassembly safely, handle software at procedure level and verify the machine fully before clinical use.

Curriculum

01The Fabius platform: models, assemblies and the gas path
Identify which Fabius variant and configuration is in front of you, name its main assemblies and boards, and follow its gas from the inlet to the scavenging port, knowing what makes this machine different from the generic workstation of anes-l1.

22 min
02Checkout and tests the way this machine needs them
Run the engineer's checkout of a Fabius in a sound order, know what each test proves on this machine and what a failure points to, and record the measured values that make the result defensible.
25 min
03Preventive maintenance, service mode and calibration
Plan and perform a Fabius PM visit in the manual's order, fit the right parts at the right interval, run the service-mode calibrations with their preconditions met and in a sound order, and fill the PM record so that another engineer can trust it.
24 min
04Technical alarms and pneumatic fault-finding
Read a Fabius alarm or service log entry as a pointer to an assembly, find supply, fresh gas and breathing system leaks by isolating tests, and separate piston ventilator, flow sensor and O2 sensor faults from the leaks and settings that imitate them.
25 min
05Hardware, electrical faults, repair and return to service
Follow the Fabius power chain to a faulty rail or board, recognise lost-memory faults, prepare the machine safely for disassembly, know what each common replacement requires afterwards, handle software at procedure level and verify the machine fully before it goes back to clinical use.

The certificate

Pass the exam and get a certificate of course completion with your name, hours and score. Every certificate has a unique number and a public verification page, so an employer or a customer can check it in one click. It confirms completion of the course; it is not an educational document (diploma) and not a manufacturer authorisation.

FAQ

Is this Dräger training?

No. It is an independent course, not affiliated with or endorsed by Drägerwerk AG. Dräger and Fabius are trademarks of their owner. The course does not replace the manufacturer's procedures and does not grant authorisation, passwords, option codes or access to service software.

Which machines does it cover?

The reference machine is the Fabius GS, whose service manual the course follows. The Fabius Plus, Tiro and MRI share the platform; where they differ the course says so in general terms and sends you to the documentation for your variant.

Do I need the service manual?

You should have the manufacturer's service and operator documentation for the machine you work on. The course explains and orders the work; the exact procedures, limits and part numbers come from the documentation for your variant and revision.

Does it cover software upgrades and option activation?

Only at procedure level: who may do it and what to record and check before and after. The steps themselves are the manufacturer's and are done by authorised personnel with the proper tools.

What does the certificate say?

Dräger Fabius Anaesthesia Workstations — Model Service (Endorsement), with your name, the hours, the date and your exam score, a unique number and a public verification page.

Can my company buy seats for a team?

Yes: five seats and a progress overview for the manager.

Languages?

English and Russian.
