GE Corometrics 170 Series Fetal Monitors — Model Service
Functional checks, transducer care, recorder service and fault-finding on the Corometrics 171, 172, 173 and 174
A model course for engineers who have passed Patient Monitor Service — Level 1. It takes the Corometrics 171, 172, 173 and 174 apart on paper: how pulsed Doppler, direct FECG, toco and intrauterine pressure reach the strip chart, how the plug selects the mode, the main board, FECG/IUP board and recorder, the functional checkout with a fetal simulator, timed chart-speed and paper-scale checks, latching FHR alarms and leakage on every applied part, transducer care and cleaning compatibility, fault-finding from chart messages to the faulty plug, transducer or board, and repair and release with settings, software and safety handled correctly. Independent course: not affiliated with or endorsed by GE HealthCare. GE, Corometrics and Nautilus are trademarks of their owners; other names are trademarks of their respective owners.
On a fetal monitor the paper is the record. This course is about keeping it true.
- Corometrics 170 Series monitors still run in many labour wards and antenatal clinics, and engineers meet them with no screen, no error history and a strip chart as the only evidence.
- Typical calls end with a board ordered while the real cause was a broken plug enable contact, a legplate, a disinfectant that cracked the transducers, the wrong paper scale or an alarm test that was not given its designed delay.
- After a main board change the settings, clock and port configuration are gone, the chart speed and central link are not verified and no leakage is measured, and the monitor returns to the labour ward on trust.
After the course you can
Curriculum
Identify which 170 Series model is on the bench, explain how it derives fetal heart rate and uterine activity, and name the assemblies, connectors and interfaces that carry each signal from the patient to the strip chart.free
22 min02Checks: self-test, simulator checks of every channel, recorder, alarms and leakage
Run the 170 Series functional checkout in a sound order with a compatible fetal simulator and known-good transducers, judge the recorder speed and paper scale, prove the latching FHR alarms and finish with leakage on every applied part.25 min03Maintenance: transducer care, cleaning compatibility, recorder, PM schedule and records
Build and carry out a planned maintenance routine for the 170 Series from the manufacturer's schedule, care for transducers, legplates and the recorder without damaging them, and keep records that let you see wear before it becomes a failure.22 min04Troubleshooting: FHR, FECG, uterine activity, recorder, power and communication faults
Locate faults on a 170 Series from the complaint, the strip chart messages and indicator behaviour to a transducer, plug, socket, setting, adapter or board, using swaps and the simulator in a cheap-first order.25 min05Repair and return to service: boards, recorder, transducers, software and the final verification
Prepare for and carry out board, recorder and transducer repairs on the 170 Series at procedure level, handle software and options only through the manufacturer's procedure, and release the monitor after a verification and electrical safety test scaled to the work done.24 min—Exam

The certificate
Pass the exam and get a certificate of course completion with your name, hours and score. Every certificate has a unique number and a public verification page, so an employer or a customer can check it in one click. It confirms completion of the course; it is not an educational document (diploma) and not a manufacturer authorisation.
Who it is for

Who teaches
Written by a service engineer working with medical equipment since 2014, including 6.5 years at GE Healthcare and service supervision at Mindray, together with the engineers of Service Engineer.
FAQ
Is this GE HealthCare training?
No. It is an independent course, not affiliated with or endorsed by GE HealthCare. GE, Corometrics and Nautilus are trademarks of their owners, and other names are trademarks of their respective owners. The course does not replace the manufacturer's procedures and does not grant authorisation, service access, software media or options.
Do I need the service manual?
You should have the manufacturer's service and operator documentation for the monitor you work on. The course explains and orders the work; the exact procedures, acceptance values, test equipment and part numbers come from the documentation for your revision.
Does it cover other fetal monitors?
The course is written for the Corometrics 171, 172, 173 and 174. The principles of Doppler, FECG and toco transfer to other fetal monitors, but their boards, checks and limits differ; use their own documentation.
Does it cover software upgrades and options such as fetal movement detection?
Only at procedure level: who may do it, what to record before and what to verify after. The steps themselves are the manufacturer's and are done by authorised personnel with the proper media for each monitor.
What does the certificate say?
GE Corometrics 170 Series Fetal Monitors — Model Service (Endorsement), with your name, the hours, the date and your exam score, a unique number and a public verification page.
Can my company buy seats for a team?
