Nihon Kohden TEC-5600 Cardiolife Defibrillator — Model Service
Basic and monthly checks, energy and sync testing, maintenance and board-level fault-finding on the TEC-5601, 5602, 5611, 5621 and 5631
A model course for engineers who have passed the Level 1 defibrillator course. It takes the TEC-5600 series apart on paper: the five models and their options, the MOTHER board, HV DRIVE board and biphasic HV unit, the paddle holder test load, battery, recorder and parameter unit, what the self-tests, the basic check and the status indicator really prove, the monthly and yearly analyser checks, maintenance of batteries and accessories, fault-finding from error code letter to replaceable board, and a return to service with data, software, adjustments and electrical safety handled correctly. Independent course: not affiliated with or endorsed by Nihon Kohden. Nihon Kohden and Cardiolife are trademarks of their owner; other names are trademarks of their respective owners.
You know how a biphasic defibrillator works. This course is about where this one fails.
- TEC-5600 units sit on resuscitation trolleys and in ambulances, and engineers meet them with general defibrillator knowledge and a service manual organised by procedure, not by the fault in front of them.
- Typical calls end with an HV unit or MOTHER board ordered while the real cause was an expired battery pack, dried gel on the holder test plates, weak plate springs, a bent connector pin, a sense harness, or a setting such as sync by paddle.
- After a board change the software, AD adjustments and settings are not restored, the internal discharge and energy are not measured, leakage is not tested, and the unit goes back to the ward on the strength of a passed basic check.
After the course you can
Curriculum
Identify which TEC-5600 model and options are on the bench, name the board or unit behind each function from the control dial to the HV capacitor, and explain what the self-tests and the status indicator prove and what they leave to you.free
22 min02Checks: the daily basic check, monthly analyser checks, energy and charge time, internal discharge, sync, AED, pacing and parameters
Run the TEC-5600 basic check and the manufacturer's monthly and annual function checks with an analyser and simulator, read each result against the manual's criteria and know which result sends the unit out of service.24 min03Maintenance: the NKB-301V battery, paddles, holder and pad adapter, cables, the recorder, the PM plan and records
Maintain the TEC-5600 battery, therapy accessories, cables and recorder to the manufacturer's intervals, plan a year of PM around them and keep records that show a trend before a failure.21 min04Troubleshooting: error code groups, therapy messages, pacing, ECG, SpO2 and CO2, power and battery, clock and memory, recorder
Use the TEC-5600 error code letter, the message tables and the maintenance report to move from a symptom to the right accessory, setting, harness or replaceable board, in the order the manual intends.24 min05Repair and return to service: service policy, data and settings, stored energy and ESD, board and unit replacement, software and AD adjustment, full test, electrical safety and records
Prepare a TEC-5600 for board or unit replacement without losing data or adjustments, work safely around the HV section, hand software and adjustments to the manufacturer's procedure, and release the unit only after full functional and electrical safety verification.25 min—Exam

The certificate
Pass the exam and get a certificate of course completion with your name, hours and score. Every certificate has a unique number and a public verification page, so an employer or a customer can check it in one click. It confirms completion of the course; it is not an educational document (diploma) and not a manufacturer authorisation.

FAQ
Is this Nihon Kohden training?
No. It is an independent course, not affiliated with or endorsed by Nihon Kohden. Nihon Kohden and Cardiolife are trademarks of their owner, and other names are trademarks of their respective owners. The course does not replace the manufacturer's procedures and does not grant authorisation, passwords or access to service functions.
Do I need the service manual?
You should have the manufacturer's service manual, operator's manual and administrator's guide for the unit you work on. The course explains and orders the work; the exact procedures, acceptance values, part codes and settings come from the documentation for your revision.
Which models does it cover?
The TEC-5601, TEC-5602, TEC-5611, TEC-5621 and TEC-5631. Other Cardiolife defibrillators share some ideas, but their boards, checks and limits differ; use their own documentation.
Does it cover software installation and adjustments?
Only at procedure level: when they are needed, who may do them, what to back up and what to check before and after. The steps, the jig and the media are the manufacturer's and are used by authorised personnel.
What test equipment do I need?
A calibrated defibrillator analyser with pacing and sync delay measurement, an oscilloscope, a patient simulator for ECG, SpO2 and CO2, CO2 test gas if the option is fitted, and an electrical safety analyser. The manual names the manufacturer's own instruments; equivalents must cover the same functions.
What does the certificate say?
Nihon Kohden TEC-5600 Cardiolife Defibrillator — Model Service (Endorsement), with your name, the hours, the date and your exam score, a unique number and a public verification page.
Can my company buy seats for a team?
