ZOLL R Series Defibrillators — Model Service

Code Readiness, annual checks, SurePower batteries, fault-finding and return to service on the R Series ALS, Plus and BLS

A model course for engineers who have passed Defibrillator and ECG Service — Level 1. It takes the R Series ALS, Plus and BLS apart on paper: the system brick with its digital and analog boards and the PD engine with its capacitor, the OneStep cable and electrode family, the SurePower battery and charger, the printer and the monitoring options; what the Code Readiness system tests and what it leaves to you; the annual checkout with an analyser and what each result means on this waveform; battery and accessory maintenance; fault-finding from the message on the screen to an accessory, a setting or a replaceable assembly; and a safe repair and return to service with data, software and configuration handled correctly. Independent course: not affiliated with or endorsed by ZOLL Medical Corporation. ZOLL, R Series, OneStep, SurePower, Code-Ready and CodeNet are trademarks of their owner; other names are trademarks of their respective owners.

You know how a defibrillator works. This course is about how this one fails, and how you prove it is ready.

  • R Series defibrillators stand in many hospital wards, and engineers meet them with general defibrillator knowledge, a service manual organised as a long message table and a ward that trusts the green check.
  • Typical calls end with a board or a capacitor assembly suspected while the real cause was a worn SurePower pack, a OneStep cable broken at its strain relief, opened pads used as a test load, sync mode left on, or an energy reading judged against the dial instead of the manufacturer's delivered-energy table.
  • After a repair the configuration is not restored, the clock is wrong, event data is erased without asking, leakage is measured on one accessory only, and the unit goes back to the ward on the strength of a 30 joule self-test.
02

After the course you can

01Identify the R Series model, options and accessories, name the assembly behind each function and explain what Code Readiness tests and does not test.
02Run the annual checkout in the manufacturer's order with an analyser and simulators, and judge energy, charge time, sync, pacing, ECG and option results against the right acceptance values.
03Maintain SurePower batteries, paddles, OneStep and ECG cables and the printer to a PM plan, handle damaged lithium packs safely and keep records that prove daily readiness.
04Locate faults from the manual's message groups using separating tests such as the test port, a second cable, a second pack and mains operation.
05Prepare for repair with data, configuration and stored-energy precautions, replace assemblies at procedure level, leave software to the manufacturer's procedure and release the unit only after a full checkout and electrical safety test.

Curriculum

01The R Series platform: assemblies, options, OneStep accessories, power and Code Readiness
Identify which R Series model and options are in front of you, name the assembly behind each function from the selector switch to the capacitor, and explain what the Code Readiness system actually tests and what it leaves to you.

22 min
02Checks: daily readiness, the annual test sequence, energy, charge time, sync, pacing, ECG and options
Run the R Series checks in the order the manufacturer intends, read each result against the right acceptance value, and know what each test proves and what it cannot prove.
25 min
03Maintenance: SurePower batteries, paddles and OneStep cables, printer, the PM schedule and records
Keep an R Series fleet ready by managing batteries, therapy accessories and the printer to the manufacturer's schedule, and keep records that prove it.
22 min
04Troubleshooting: message groups, charge and shock faults, pads and impedance, ECG noise, power and printer
Take an R Series fault from the message on the screen to a cause at the level of accessory, setting or replaceable assembly, using the manual's message groups, a few separating tests and the readiness log.
25 min
05Repair and return to service: stored energy, assembly replacement, software and configuration, full test and records
Prepare and carry out an R Series assembly replacement safely and within the manufacturer's procedure, handle data, software and configuration correctly, and release the unit only after a full functional and electrical safety check with a complete record.

The certificate

Pass the exam and get a certificate of course completion with your name, hours and score. Every certificate has a unique number and a public verification page, so an employer or a customer can check it in one click. It confirms completion of the course; it is not an educational document (diploma) and not a manufacturer authorisation.

FAQ

Is this ZOLL training?

No. It is an independent course, not affiliated with or endorsed by ZOLL Medical Corporation. ZOLL, R Series, OneStep, SurePower, Code-Ready and CodeNet are trademarks of their owner, and other names are trademarks of their respective owners. The course does not replace the manufacturer's procedures and does not grant authorisation, passwords or access to service software.

Do I need the service manual?

Yes. You should have the manufacturer's service manual, operator's guides and configuration guide for the units you work on. The course explains the platform and orders the work; the exact procedures, acceptance values, torques and part numbers come from the documentation for your revision.

Does it cover other ZOLL defibrillators?

The course is written for the R Series ALS, Plus and BLS. The X Series, the M and E Series and the AEDs share some ideas and accessories but differ in boards, checks and limits; use their own documentation.

Does it cover software updates and options?

Only at procedure level: who may do it, what to back up and what to check before and after. Software loading and option changes are the manufacturer's procedure, done by authorised personnel with the proper keys and media.

Does it teach opening the high-voltage section?

It explains where the stored energy is, why it is lethal and how the manufacturer's procedure treats it. It does not replace that procedure, and it teaches you to test energy only into an analyser load.

What does the certificate say?

ZOLL R Series Defibrillators — Model Service (Endorsement), with your name, the hours, the date and your exam score, a unique number and a public verification page.

Can my company buy seats for a team?

Yes: five seats and a progress overview for the manager.
