ZOLL X Series Monitor/Defibrillator — Model Service

Readiness, the annual test sequence, batteries and accessories, fault-finding by message group and return to service on the X Series and X Series Advanced

A model course for engineers who have passed Defibrillator and ECG Service — Level 1. It takes the X Series and X Series Advanced apart on paper: the monitor board with its three processors and power system, the two-board defibrillator module and the capacitor, the NIBP, EtCO2, SpO2, IBP and temperature options, the printer, the communications carrier and the SurePower battery; what the Ready For Use indicator and the readiness test prove and what they leave to you; the 25-step annual test sequence with an analyser and simulators and the acceptance values that go with it; battery, cable and accessory upkeep; fault-finding from the message on the screen to an accessory, a setting or one module; and a safe repair and return to service, with restricted parts, data, software and electrical safety handled correctly. Independent course: not affiliated with or endorsed by ZOLL Medical Corporation. ZOLL, X Series, SurePower and Rectilinear Biphasic are trademarks of their owner; Masimo, Rainbow, Oridion and Microstream are trademarks of their respective owners.

You know how a defibrillator works. This course is about how this monitor/defibrillator fails, and how you prove it is ready.

  • X Series units work in ambulances, emergency departments and transport teams, and engineers meet them with general defibrillator knowledge, a service manual whose fault table is in alphabetical order and users who trust the green Ready For Use indicator.
  • Typical calls end with a defibrillator board or a capacitor suspected while the real cause was a tired SurePower pack, a cracked multifunction cable, sync mode left on, a filter line, an NIBP hose routed wrongly after a repair or a configuration error in the reports server settings.
  • After a repair the full test sequence is skipped, restricted boards are changed without the required calibration, patient data on the carrier board is lost, leakage is measured on one accessory only, and the unit goes back on the strength of a short test into the test connector.
02

After the course you can

01Identify the X Series modules and options, name the board behind each function, know where data and software live, and explain what the RFU indicator and readiness test cover.
02Run the annual test sequence in the manufacturer's order and judge energy, charge time, sync, pacing, ECG, SpO2, EtCO2, IBP, NIBP and temperature results against the manual's acceptance values.
03Maintain SurePower batteries, multifunction and ECG cables, pads and paddles, the printer and the EtCO2 and NIBP service items to a written PM plan with records that show trends.
04Locate faults by message group, from stuck keys and therapy faults to parameter, power, printer and communication messages, using cheap separating tests before ordering parts.
05Decide which repairs are yours, secure data, discharge and verify the high-voltage section, replace modules at procedure level, leave software and restricted boards to the authorised route and release only after full tests and IEC 62353 safety checks.

Curriculum

01The X Series platform: monitor board, defibrillator module, capacitor, monitoring options, power, communications and the Ready For Use indicator
Name the field-replaceable modules of an X Series or X Series Advanced, say which board carries each function and where data and software live, and explain what the Ready For Use indicator and the readiness test prove and what they leave to you.

02Checks: shift checks, the annual test sequence, energy and charge time, sync, pacing, ECG and parameter checks with simulators
Run the X Series annual test sequence in the manufacturer's order with an analyser and simulators, judge each result against the acceptance value the service manual gives, and know which tests are functional checks rather than accuracy checks.
24 min
03Maintenance: SurePower batteries and charging, cables, pads and paddles, printer, EtCO2 and NIBP upkeep, the PM schedule and records
Keep an X Series fleet ready between inspections by managing batteries, therapy and patient cables, the printer and the EtCO2 and NIBP service items to a written PM plan, and keep records that show trends rather than ticks.
22 min
04Troubleshooting: message groups, therapy faults, parameter module faults, power and battery, keys and communication
Take an X Series complaint from the message on the screen to an accessory, a setting or one replaceable module, using the manual's message groups and cheap separating tests before any part is ordered.
25 min
05Repair and return to service: who may repair what, data and stored energy, module replacement, software, test after repair, electrical safety and records
Decide which X Series repairs you may do, prepare data and discharge the high-voltage section safely, replace modules at procedure level, leave software and restricted boards to the manufacturer's route, and release the unit only after the full test sequence, any required calibration and electrical safety checks.

The certificate

Pass the exam and get a certificate of course completion with your name, hours and score. Every certificate has a unique number and a public verification page, so an employer or a customer can check it in one click. It confirms completion of the course; it is not an educational document (diploma) and not a manufacturer authorisation.

FAQ

Is this ZOLL training?

No. It is an independent course, not affiliated with or endorsed by ZOLL Medical Corporation. ZOLL, X Series, SurePower and Rectilinear Biphasic are trademarks of their owner; Masimo, Rainbow, Oridion and Microstream are trademarks of their respective owners. The course does not replace the manufacturer's procedures or training and does not grant authorisation, passcodes or access to service software.

Do I need the service manual?

You should have the manufacturer's service manual and Operator's Guide for the units you work on. The course explains and orders the work; exact procedures, acceptance values, torques and part numbers come from the documentation for your revision.

How is it different from the R Series course?

The R Series course covers a defibrillator built around a system brick with Code Readiness. The X Series is a full transport monitor/defibrillator with a monitor board, a two-board defibrillator module, many monitoring options and wireless communication, and has its own test sequence, messages and repair limits. Only the general method carries over.

Does it cover software updates, options and restricted boards?

Only at procedure level: who may do it, what to back up and what to check before and after. Software, option changes and the boards the manual reserves for the manufacturer or its authorised providers are handled through that route.

What does the certificate say?

ZOLL X Series Monitor/Defibrillator — Model Service (Endorsement), with your name, the hours, the date and your exam score, a unique number and a public verification page.

Can my company buy seats for a team?

Yes: five seats and a progress overview for the manager.
