Canon Aplio 300: sluggish controls and delayed responses

What happened

As reported in the case, the system felt slow overall: button presses and on-screen elements reacted late, many functions would not open, the unit beeped after presses, and the key backlight came on with a delay.

What was checked

Cause

The control cable of the retractable keyboard was broken. The symptoms looked like a software fault, but the cause was purely mechanical: repeated flexing of the cable during keyboard movement had damaged the conductors.

What was done

The damaged cable was replaced or restored, as reported in the case. After that the keyboard and screen responded normally, the functions opened and the beeping stopped — the case was solved.

Safety

De-energise the system and unplug it before opening the keyboard assembly, and complete the electrical safety test before the unit goes back into clinical use.

Lesson: System-wide sluggishness that looks like a software problem on an ultrasound can come from a single broken keyboard cable, so check the simple mechanics first.
