Fujifilm DryPix 4000: printer fails to boot after a power outage
What happened
Reported in the case: after a power failure the printer stopped booting and displayed error 0004 0000, which is not listed in the manual. The error log showed a different code, 0005 001B, which per the manual pointed to a hard disk replacement.
What was checked
- Visual inspection with partial disassembly and preventive cleaning of the swing-out assemblies
- Reading the display error log to compare the code on screen with the one stored in the log
- Following the reboot procedure from the manufacturer's documentation
Cause
The engineers found corrupted printer settings after the abrupt power loss during boot; the log code that suggested a hard disk fault turned out to be a misleading trace, not a failed drive.
What was done
The engineers restored the printer to factory defaults using a procedure from the manufacturer's service documentation, done by authorised personnel, and restarted the unit. The printer then booted and returned to normal operation.
Safety
After any unplanned power loss, isolate the printer from the mains and allow internal capacitors to discharge before removing covers, and complete the electrical safety checks before returning the unit to service.
Lesson: After an unclean power-down, an undocumented or misleading error code can reflect corrupted settings rather than failed hardware, so work through the documented recovery steps before committing to a parts replacement.
