GE OEC Fluorostar 7900: boot error, suspected software loss
What happened
At power-up the mobile C-arm reports an error and the system software on the industrial PC (IPC) appears to be corrupted; no error codes were recorded in the case.
What was checked
- The engineers verified the hardware configuration of the system unit: IPC type (1000 or 1500 as reported in the case), motherboard, video cards and BIOS version.
- They photographed the unit's ID plate and the internal layout, so the configuration could be matched against a candidate recovery image.
Cause
Reported as probable, not confirmed: corruption of the system software on the IPC. No hardware fault was identified in the case; the hardware was consistent with a known configuration family.
The cause is probable and was not fully confirmed.
What was done
The fix reported in the case was to restore the system software using an image from another unit of the same model. The engineers found that such an image works only if the hardware configuration matches exactly: same IPC type, same motherboard and video cards, same BIOS version. At the close of the case a matching image was still being arranged, so the outcome was probable, not confirmed. The software restore itself is a procedure from the manufacturer's service documentation, done by authorised personnel.
Safety
After any system software restore, keep the C-arm out of clinical use until the manufacturer's functional checks pass: verify beam-on and dose behaviour with a test tool or phantom and complete the electrical safety test before return to service.
Lesson: Before restoring system software from another unit's image, confirm the hardware configuration matches exactly — same board set, video hardware and BIOS version — otherwise the recovery can create new faults.
