GE Signa Creator: ICN configuration fails validation after reconstructor replacement
What happened
After replacing the ICN (image reconstructor) the ICN configuration step would not start, and the installation did not pass configuration validation.
What was checked
- Confirm the replacement ICN powers up and the iDARC side is responding
- Compare the ICN part numbers with the removed unit
- Check that the installed software version matches the ICN version
- Reinstall the console software
- Connect a VGA monitor to watch the installer output during setup
- Try running the setup with VRE on a separate disk
Cause
The exact cause was not identified. The engineers found that validation kept failing after the swap even though the replacement board was alive, which pointed to leftover configuration or state in the reconstructor controller rather than a dead part.
What was done
The case was closed with a full factory reset in the LifeCircle Controller of the reconstructor. This is a procedure from the manufacturer's service documentation, done by authorised personnel.
Safety
The magnet field is always on, so use only non-ferromagnetic tools near the bore, and before returning the scanner to use complete the manufacturer's system verification and electrical safety checks.
Lesson: After replacing a major computer or board in an imaging chain, leftover configuration in the host controller can block validation, so check for a documented factory-reset path before chasing parts or reinstalling software.
