Mindray DC-N6: built-in screen dark, control panel unresponsive
What happened
The built-in screen showed 'no signal' while an external monitor still displayed the image; the trackball and the control panel buttons did not respond, and the system also flagged the battery.
What was checked
- The engineers disconnected the disk drive from power and restarted, which allowed one successful boot.
- They disconnected the battery to rule it out as a cause.
- They then traced which loads are fed from the I/O interface board and suspected it.
Cause
A degrading DC-DC converter on the I/O interface board could no longer carry the combined load: the monitor, the control panel and the disk drive are powered from that one board, and the disk drive added extra load, so voltage sagged and parts of the system dropped out.
The cause is probable and was not fully confirmed.
What was done
Disconnecting the disk drive let the system start once, but the fault returned on the next power-up. The fault was traced to the DC-DC converter on the I/O interface board; the probable fix is replacement of the board, reported in the case as pending. Since no confirmed repair was described, the outcome is probable.
Safety
Unplug the unit from mains and let the capacitors in the power section discharge before working on the board, and complete the full electrical safety test (protective earth and leakage currents) before the scanner returns to clinical use.
Lesson: When several seemingly unrelated controls fail together, look for what they share — one sagging DC-DC rail can knock out a screen, a panel and a drive at once, and temporary load shedding only confirms the cause, it never replaces the repair.
