Nihon Kohden Vismo: battery error with a new battery
What happened
After a new battery was installed, the monitor reported a battery error and the charge indicator flashed quickly.
What was checked
- The engineers ruled out the simple causes first: correct battery type, firm seating and clean charge contacts.
- Since the fault appeared with a fresh battery, they suspected the battery had not been recognised after replacement and turned to the manufacturer's service documentation for the reset procedure.
Cause
As reported in the case: after the battery swap, the battery reset (recognition) step had not been performed, so the monitor did not recognise the new battery and kept flagging a fault.
What was done
The fix was a procedure from the manufacturer's service documentation, done by authorised personnel: the battery reset was carried out and the monitor was restarted normally. Charging resumed and, as reported in the case, the charge indicator settled to a slow green light.
Safety
Before any battery work, disconnect the monitor from mains power and inspect the pack for swelling, heat or leakage — a damaged lithium battery is a fire risk — and verify battery backup and alarms before the monitor returns to clinical use.
Lesson: A battery error on a brand-new battery is often a recognition issue rather than a bad part, so run the manufacturer's battery reset procedure after replacement before ordering anything.
