Philips Affiniti 70: error and shutdown after preventive cleaning
What happened
After a routine cleaning with air blow-out and reassembly, the system started but immediately reported a fault and stopped working.
What was checked
- Software and hardware were checked first; reinstalling the software changed nothing.
- The power supply was diagnosed without schematics; the engineers found a worn cooling fan whose current the controller had flagged as abnormal, as reported in the case.
Cause
The cooling fan was worn out. The power supply controller monitors fan current, registered the degradation, and shut down the high-voltage section to protect the unit from overheating — which is why the fault surfaced right after cleaning, when the already weak fan finally gave up.
What was done
The worn fan was replaced. After the replacement, as reported in the case, the system powered up and worked normally.
Safety
Before any work near the power supply, unplug the unit, allow capacitors to discharge and verify that no voltage is present; after reassembly, perform the electrical safety test before returning the machine to use.
Lesson: A fault that appears right after preventive cleaning is often a worn component finally failing — check fans and cooling before blaming the software.
