GE SIGNA MRI — Model Service
Platform, daily checks, maintenance, fault-finding and return to service on the SIGNA 1.5T/3T family
Part of the program: MRI Service Engineer — full program (16 h) →
A model course for engineers who have passed MRI Service — Level 1, continuing the Sumitomo cryocooler course. It takes the GE SIGNA 1.5T and 3T family as engineers meet it — HD, HDe, HDxt, Excite, Creator, Explorer, Voyager and Pioneer — and goes family-specific: how the generations package magnet monitoring, gradients, RF, computers and cooling; the daily readings that show a drift; the PM of chiller, gradient cooling, shield, coils and cabinets; fault-finding with real field cases; and where an independent engineer's work ends and the manufacturer's begins. Independent course: not affiliated with or endorsed by GE HealthCare. GE, SIGNA and the system names mentioned are trademarks of their owners.
You know how an MR scanner works. This course is about how a SIGNA fails, and how you see it coming.
- SIGNA systems keep running for many years after the manufacturer contract ends, and engineers meet them with a general MRI background, partial documentation and a family name that hides three very different generations.
- Typical calls end with boards and amplifiers ordered while the cause sits in a fouled gradient coolant circuit, a dirty chiller condenser, a table harness, an oxidised coil port or a light fitting in the scan room.
- Helium trends, compressor stops and doubtful level readings are noticed only when the level is already low, and repairs are released without the calibrations and image checks that prove them.
After the course you can
Curriculum
Identify which SIGNA generation and configuration is in front of you, name its magnet, gradient, RF, computer and cooling blocks as GE packages them, and know which parts of the room belong to the scanner.free
22 min02Daily and periodic checks: start-up, QA, magnet monitoring, logs and the cooling plant
Start and stop a SIGNA system in a safe order, read its daily QA, magnet monitor, logs, chiller and room readings as trends, and record them so that the next engineer can see a drift before it becomes a failure.22 min03Preventive maintenance and the site: cooling, cryocooler, shield, coils, cabinets and image quality
Plan and carry out a SIGNA preventive maintenance visit that covers the cooling loops, the cryocooler, the helium trend, the RF shield, coils and cables, cabinets and UPS, and close it with image quality checks and records that prove the system is as good as at its last baseline.24 min04Fault-finding: gradients, cooling, RF and coils, helium alarms and boot problems
Work a SIGNA fault from the exact message to the failed part in a sound order, using the axis structure of the gradients, the room and coil checks of the RF chain, the magnet monitor for cryogen alarms and the boot sequence for computer faults, while keeping people and the magnet safe.25 min05Repairs and return to service: the OEM boundary, board and amplifier exchange, calibration and release
Decide which SIGNA repairs an independent engineer may do and which need the manufacturer, carry out board, amplifier, coil and table repairs at procedure level with safe preparation, and return the system to clinical use only after the right calibrations, QA and documentation.24 min—Exam

The certificate
Pass the exam and get a certificate of course completion with your name, hours and score. Every certificate has a unique number and a public verification page, so an employer or a customer can check it in one click. It confirms completion of the course; it is not an educational document (diploma) and not a manufacturer authorisation.
Who it is for
Who it is for
- Engineers who have completed MRI Service — Level 1 or have equivalent experience
- Hospital biomedical teams and independent service companies maintaining GE SIGNA systems
Who teaches
Written by a service engineer working with medical equipment since 2014, including 6.5 years at GE Healthcare and service supervision at Mindray, together with the engineers of Service Engineer.
FAQ
Is this GE training?
No. It is an independent course, not affiliated with or endorsed by GE HealthCare. GE, SIGNA and the system names mentioned are trademarks of their owners. The course does not replace the manufacturer's procedures and does not grant authorisation, passwords, service keys or access to service software.
Do I need the service documentation?
You should have the manufacturer's service and pre-installation documentation for the system and release you work on. The course explains and orders the work; exact procedures, limits and part numbers come from that documentation.
Does it teach helium fills, ramping or shimming?
No. It explains why these belong to the manufacturer or to authorised personnel, what you do while you wait for them, and how to protect the magnet when the cryocooler stops.
Does it cover software reloads and options?
Only at procedure level: who may do it, what to back up and check before and after. The steps themselves are the manufacturer's and are done by authorised personnel with the proper keys and media.
What does the certificate say?
GE SIGNA MRI — Model Service (Endorsement), with your name, the hours, the date and your exam score, a unique number and a public verification page.
Can my company buy seats for a team?
Yes: five seats and a progress overview for the manager.
