Dräger Fabius Plus: interface language options missing
What happened
There was no language selection item in the configuration at all, so the interface could not be switched to Russian. No error codes were reported.
What was checked
- The engineers checked the user configuration and confirmed the language list had shrunk to the default only.
- Since the settings had clearly been lost, they checked what keeps them alive between power cycles and found the BIOS battery flat, as reported in the case.
Cause
The BIOS (CMOS) battery was dead, so the machine lost its stored configuration when power was removed and came back with a default regional profile whose user settings did not offer Russian.
What was done
The flat BIOS battery was replaced, and the regional configuration was restored with a procedure from the manufacturer's service documentation, done by authorised personnel. After that, Russian reappeared in the user language settings. The case was reported as solved.
Safety
Replace the battery only with the machine switched off and isolated from mains power, and before returning the anaesthesia machine to clinical use run the full manufacturer's pre-use check to verify ventilation and alarms.
Lesson: A vanished configuration option can simply mean the battery that keeps settings alive has died — check power-backed memory before suspecting software or a serious fault.
