Mindray DC-70 X-Insight: serial number missing after hard drive replacement
What happened
After a hard drive replacement the system no longer showed the serial number, and the software version changed (reported in the case as CE to FD).
What was checked
- Check the USB connection to the control panel first — in this case the serial number was reported to be tied to the panel, so a poor link can mimic the same fault.
- Verify the keyboard/control panel itself works properly before blaming the drive.
- Look for the configuration file containing the serial number on the old hard drive.
Cause
In this case the engineers found that the serial number was stored in a configuration file on the replaced hard drive; the new drive was blank, so the system lost its identity and configuration.
The cause is probable and was not fully confirmed.
What was done
The fix recommended in the case was to locate the configuration file on the old drive and restore it to the new one; this is a procedure from the manufacturer's service documentation, done by authorised personnel. As reported, the outcome was probable rather than confirmed.
Safety
Power the system down and isolate it from the mains before opening the cabinet, and complete the electrical safety test before the unit returns to clinical use.
Lesson: Back up the system configuration and identity data before replacing a hard drive — on some machines they live on the drive, and a fresh disk leaves the unit without its serial number and correct software configuration.
