Philips Epic 7: serial number not accepted after software reinstall
What happened
After a software reinstall, the unit would not accept its serial number, options could not be installed, and the system reported error 014 (as reported in the case).
What was checked
- The engineers checked the serial number on the unit's nameplate against the supplied documentation to rule out a mismatch.
- After repeated serial entry attempts failed, they checked the system's internal date in the configuration and found it set incorrectly — the wrong date was not displayed anywhere on the normal screens.
Cause
The internal system date had been set incorrectly during the reinstall. With a wrong date, the software refused to bind the serial number to the installation, which blocked option activation and produced the reported error 014.
What was done
The engineers corrected the system date and additionally installed a more recent software release (as reported in the case). The serial number was then re-entered and accepted, and the options installed normally. The step of accepting the serial number was a procedure from the manufacturer's service documentation, done by authorised personnel.
Safety
After any software or configuration change, confirm the system boots to a normal scanning state and complete the manufacturer's electrical safety tests before returning the unit to clinical use.
Lesson: After a software reinstall, check the system date first — a wrong internal date that is nowhere displayed can silently block serial number binding and option activation.
